The E. E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame announces the opening of nominations for the Class of 2024. The nominations will be open until July 31, 2023. The E. E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame (HOF) was initiated in 2021. Known as the Golden Bulls, the HOF seek to recognize alumni for their distinction and notable contributions in various capacities in their chosen sports fields.

The Hall of Fame also honors longstanding supporters, administrators, staff, and volunteers who have shown loyalty and passion to the Golden Bulls and their rich athletic culture. These are individuals who have been supportive off the field to the cause of E. E. Smith High School athletics. Nominations are open to honor and preserve the illustrious contributions of these individuals.

E. E. Smith High School has a long and rich sports history. Over the years, it has produced a plethora of exceptional, nationally celebrated athletes and coaches. These individuals have made names for themselves due to their outstanding athletic abilities and by winning state and national college championships, Super Bowls and by making game changing contributions as coaches and players on the college and professional levels.

Nominations for the E.E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame, Class of 2024, will remain open until July 31, 2023. Nomination forms can be accessed on the web site of the E.E. Fayetteville NC – Prominent leaders in Cumberland County N.C. have formed a committee seeking to rename Westarea Elementary School, an established educational institution in Fayetteville, North Carolina, as part of a new initiative to honor NFL legend James A. NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, SANDHILLS PROSPERITY ZONE RECOGNIZES MILITARY SPOUSE’S EFFORTS IN SUPPORT OF SERVICE MEMBERS’S CAREERS

Fayetteville, NC –In advance of Military Spouse Appreciation Day, May 12, 2023, NC Department of Commerce, Sandhills Prosperity Zone plans a week-long celebration of the extraordinary contributions of military spouses in support of their families, community and loved ones in uniform.

The celebration will have a regional aspect including remote events in Hoke and Moore Counties (9/11 May respectively) and a three day affair (8-9 and 11 May) in Fayetteville. The Fayetteville portion of the celebration will consist of the following:

Day One Monday, May 8, 2023 Iron Mike Conference Center Fort Bragg

Military Spouse Panel Discussion/Round Table Meetings. The morning activities will include a 5-6 member panel of current and former military spouses discussing the issues they faced during the periods that their partner served on active duty in the military. The afternoon sessions (round table) would be devoted to carving out resolutions to some of the problems discussed in the morning discussions. A Military Spouse of the Year Award will be presented as portion of the First Day’s events. We anticipate an audience of 100-150 spouses.

Day Two Tuesday 9 May 2023 Fayetteville State University

Workshops for Entrepreneurship/Employment Planning and Preparation/VA Benefits/Disability Benefits .

These workshops are intended to introduce the spouse to the diverse resources available to assist/support them in all phases of life. The workshops will run simultaneously 9am-5pm. Fifty to sixty spouses are expected to participate in each workshop.

Day 3 Thursday 11 May 2023 Fayetteville State University

Career and Resources Fair

NC WORKS FAYETTEVILLE will host 70-80 employers and resource providers from a varied array of occupations/fields to provide employment opportunities and information relating to critical community and government resources. Though the focus of this event is military spouses and veterans it will be open to the public. It is anticipated that more than 500 job seekers will attend.

NC Works Career Center Cumberland County, The Mo You Know, Mo’s Heroes, FTCC and Surgeon & Associates will host a career and resource expo from January 25th to 26th 2023 at TJ Robinson Life Center; Hope Mills NC. These organizations have joined forces to connect companies who are hiring to a market of talents in NC for free. This training, informational, resource, and employment event aims to greatly benefit and significantly impact the Sandhills region labor force. The career fair is a hiring and networking event that provides job seekers with the unique opportunity and platform for hiring managers to meet, interact and interview talents at no cost to both parties. Career opportunities will be available in positions ranging from entry-level to management.

The event program spans two days with the first day 25th January 2023 dedicated to providing job seekers access to soft skills acquisition and training including resume building, interview assessment, dress code and workplace etiquette training, entrepreneurial guidance, veterans affairs, and information and counseling on disability benefits. Day two program is the actual career fair with over 100 firms and resource agencies in attendance and at least 500 or more job seekers and applicants from the Sandhills region are anticipated to attend. Both days start at 9:00 am to 5:00 pm closing time. Application and attendance are open to all above the age of 16 though veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses are priority.

The Hiring Event, which is scheduled for January 26th is a life-changing platform for hiring and networking between employers and job seekers. Employers invited to attend include Amazon, Duke Energy, vectrus, Cumberland County schools, Lowe’s, Fayetteville Public Works, Cape Fear Valley Medical System, Walmart distribution, Kellogg’s, US Customs and Border Patrol, KBR, Halliburton, city of Fayetteville, General Dynamics, Military Sealift Command, Smithfield Foods, Goodyear, Chemours, Mann+Hummel, Cargill, AAFEES, RLM, Applied Materials, CACI, Sampson Regional Medical Center, Watts Water, Pike Electricity and more will be in attendance to scout potential employees.
