Initiative to rename Westarea Elementary to James A. Raye Elementary

Fayetteville NC – Prominent leaders in Cumberland County N.C. have formed a committee seeking to rename Westarea Elementary School, an established educational institution in Fayetteville, North Carolina, as part of a new initiative to honor NFL legend James A. Raye Jr. The proposed name change to James A. Raye Elementary aims to pay tribute to the remarkable achievements and contributions of this esteemed athlete, coach, and community leader.

James A. Raye Jr. is an American football coach and former player who has left an indelible mark on the world of football. From his humble beginnings at the segregated E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to his illustrious college career as a quarterback for the Michigan State Spartans, Raye’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Raye’s college career included notable highlights, such as serving as the backup quarterback for the 1966 Spartans team that played in the Rose Bowl and starting in the legendary 10-10 tie game against Notre Dame, often referred to as “The Game of the Century.” As the South’s first black quarterback to win a national title, Raye played a pivotal role in breaking down racial barriers in college football.

Following his playing career, Raye transitioned to coaching, leaving an indelible mark on the NFL. With a coaching career spanning 36 years and 10 different teams, Raye excelled as an offensive coordinator and was widely regarded for his adaptability and leadership skills. His contributions to the San Francisco 49ers during the 2009 season, where he adeptly adjusted the offense despite key player injuries, earned him high praise from peers and experts.

The initiative to rename Westarea Elementary as James A. Raye Elementary aims to honor Raye’s exceptional legacy and inspire future generations. By bestowing his name upon the school, Cumberland County seeks to celebrate Raye’s achievements both on and off the field and to provide a lasting testament to his commitment to community service.

“We are thrilled to embark on this initiative to rename Westarea Elementary as James A. Raye Elementary,” said Roy McNeill, spokesperson for the initiative. “James A. Raye Jr. is not only a renowned NFL figure but also an exceptional role model, mentor, and community leader. We believe that by renaming the school in his honor, we will inspire students to strive for greatness and to make a positive impact in their communities.”

The initiative is currently seeking support from the Board of Education and influencers in Cumberland County. Furthermore, individuals are encouraged to sign the petition in favor of the name change, showing their solidarity with this significant undertaking.

China to Dominate Upcoming Oil and Gas Projects Commencing Operations in Asia-Pacific by 2027

China is poised to dominate the landscape of the upcoming oil and gas (O&G) project in Asia-Pacific, accounting for 33% of the total projects anticipated to go into operation by 2027, reported Offshore Technology, which cited “Petrochemicals New Build and Expansion Projects Analysis by Type, Development Stage, Key Countries, Region and Forecasts, 2023-2027.”

Upcoming Oil & Gas Projects in Asia-Pacific Region

The O&G industry in the Asia-pacific region is forecasted to see a boom in the coming years, with the region’s economy resuming growth and driving demand for consumer goods and fuels.

Roughly 2,040 oil and gas projects are set to start operation during the forecast period of 2023–27, with petrochemical leading with 1,024 projects. Of the project total, 230 are expected to be upstream, 564 downstream, and 343 refinery projects.

The trunk/transmission pipelines sector accounts for 37% of all projects whilst LNG and oil storage respectively constitute 30% and 24% of the midstream project segment.

Among these 2,040 oil and gas projects, the construction of about 43% is underway and are expected to be in operation by 2027.

Thirty-one percent of the undertakings have been sanctioned by the governing authority or waiting for approval while the remaining projects are still in the planning phase.

China Leading the Oil & Gas Industry in Asia-Pacific

GlobalData forecasts China to lead the midstream projects. Around 89 midstream projects accounting for 22% of the total midstream projects in Asia-Pacific are anticipated to start operation between 2023 and 2027.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification projects top the list of midstream projects accounting for 46% of the total as the country steps up imports of natural gas as part of its effort to curb carbon emissions.

Himani Pant Pandey, Oil & Gas Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Being one of the leading importers and consumers of oil and gas in the world, China is witnessing a strong midstream infrastructure development, particularly in the LNG regasification, pipelines, and storage segments.”

Again, China is forecast to dominate the petrochemical projects accounting for about half of the total projects commencing operation in Asia through 2027.

Out of 410 petrochemical projects starting in the country, the number of polypropylene and propylene projects are expected to be 48 and 42 respectively.

Optimising Oil & Gas Production Requires Efficient Reservoir Lifecycle Monitoring

With the demand for energy soaring worldwide, companies are striving to develop new oil and gas fields.

Case in point: New-built projects make up more than 78% of the total O&G projects starting in Asia-Pacific during the forecast period of 2023-27.

For oil and gas companies looking to optimise production and strengthen their decision-making, using high-resolution borehole seismic services manufactured by leading companies like Silixa is a sensible business investment.

High-end DAS seismic services can offer a cost-effective solution for monitoring the life cycle of a reservoir, including exploration, development, production, and abandonment.

Wrapping Up

By rolling out a significant number of oil and gas projects, China is committed to meeting the growing industrial, domestic, and consumer energy demand while also becoming self-sufficient in energy.

Fujitsu Devising Plans to Migrate to a One SAP ERP System based on SAP S/4HANA

Fujitsu, the leading Japanese global information and communication technology company, is reportedly strengthening its coalition with SAP to migrate all its ERP systems to SAP S4/HANA within five years.

“Our goal with the initiative is to organise and integrate them all at once to standardise and streamline operations in a holistic manner,” stated Shunsuke Baba, the CDPO (Chief Data & Process Officer) at Fujitsu.

Named OneERP+, this plan is devised to deploy one single standardised ERP across its operations globally while enabling Fujitsu to transform digitally, at a repositioning cost of about $760 million, reported The Registered.

More Insights

OneERP+ is expected to recruit more than 1,500 staffers during the peak of the project deployment in addition to the company’s 124,200 existing employees.

As the brainchild of CEO Takahito Tokitaive, this five-year-long digital transformation project is being led by Fujitsu’s EVP and chief data and process officer Shunsuke Baba.

Rolled out in the second half of 2020, this multi-year DX project is aimed at building “a foundation to support purpose-driven and data-driven management.”

This Japanese computing veteran currently operates more than 4,000 systems to run its internal business, multiple instances of SAP-based systems, and in-house ERPs.

“The program was started in the second half of 2020 in order to build a foundation to support purpose-driven and data-driven management, which represents a core measure in this strategic shift,” stated Shunsuke Baba. “There are many different business processes and systems for each business and region. One of our key challenges is how to thoroughly standardise all business process data and simplify it as a basic system.”

Migrating to One SAP ERP

The OneERP+ program is launched as part of Fujitsu’s effort to efficiently oversee and streamline its key global business operations, such as accounting, sales, project management and procurement, and more.

With this move, the technology giant is committed to efficiently consolidating its existing ERP services onto the S/4HANA cloud platform hosted in Microsoft Azure.

The company’s SaaS-based front-end applications are planned to be running in Azure with other SAP systems hosted by AWS.

The first stage of the migration process is poised to be completed within the 2024 fiscal year.

Successful Transition to the S/4HANA Platform Needs Expert Support

Cloud-based system deployment is gaining momentum among SAP-centric companies looking to drive business agility.

In addition, with SAP ECC mainstream support ending by 2027, migrating to the S/4HANA system has become unavoidable for future-focused businesses. However, assimilating a new system is a complex task that is subject to hefty costs, heavy customisation, and large-scale data migration. As a result, the process may lead to bottom-up disruption unless executed by experts.

For businesses looking to drive down the migration cost while also ensuring minimum business disruption, investing in a high-quality SAP migration service like Protera is a sensible decision.

A high-end service can accelerate the S/4HANA transformation project efficiently and cost-effectively.

Shedding light on the intricacy of this five-year-long OneERP+ project, The EVP and CDPO officer at Fujitsu said, “This is a very challenging project, and although it is actually promoted with the inclusion of add-on development, it is not merely an ERP introduction project but is also promoted as a large-scale reform project at the management level on the premise of a large-scale transformation of business processes,” explained Baba. “The organisation consists of a team that designs business transformation from a business perspective and a team that implements it as an IT system.”

GoodFuels and Hyundai GLOVIS Partner on Biofuel Bunkering for the First Korean-Flagged PCTC Vessel

GoodFuels, in collaboration with Hyundai GLOVIS, have announced the successful completion of the first biofuel bunkering with a South Korea-flagged pure car and truck carrier (PCTC).

Named GLOVIS SUNRISE, this vehicle carrier is the first-ever Korean-flagged PCTC to sail on biofuels.

GoodFuels considers this bio-bunkering a milestone, as promoting the usability of sustainable “drop-in” fuel takes centre stage in the company’s sustainability strategy.

“This first bio-bunkering in collaboration with Hyundai GLOVIS marks an exciting milestone towards decarbonised maritime transport and more sustainable supply chains,’ stated Dirk Kronemeijer, CEO of GoodFuels. “It also shows the central role that biofuels can play in reducing shipping’s carbon footprint today as a safe, convenient, and technically viable option to slash emissions from commercial vessels by up to 90%.”

Sustainable Marine Fuel can Curb CO2 Emissions

Even though vital for trade, the shipping sector contributes significantly to climate change. This sector alone requires over 330 Mt of fuel in a year and spews out 2-3% of the world’s total CO2 emissions.

In 2021, waterborne transport accounted for around 3% to 4% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the European Union (EU).

With the maritime industry responsible for carrying roughly 90% of world trade, decarbonising this sector has long been considered a dire necessity.

That said, years after sustainable marine fuels were first introduced as an alternative to petroleum-based fuel in the shipping industry, uptake remains remarkably limited.

However, steps are being taken to curb greenhouse gas emissions from the shipping industry.

For example, In March 2023, a ‘groundbreaking’ agreement has been inked between the European Parliament and the Council to help the maritime industry reduce ship emissions by 2% as of 2025 and 80% as of 2050.

Experts unanimously agree that biofuels hold the potential to provide almost the same efficiency as fossil-based marine fuel but with a much smaller carbon footprint. For example, sustainable marine fuel can offer more than 70% reduction in well-to-wake GHG emissions than its fossil fuel equivalent, based on the feedstock and conversion process used.

However, with the increasing bio-content in sustainable marine fuels exacerbating microbial contamination, preventing the growth of microbes has now become dire.

Businesses looking to improve their fuel management use periodic marine fuel tests with kits like FUELSTAT®, so that that contamination can be identified at the earliest stages and before any safety/operational disruptions incur hefty losses.

More About the First Korean-Flagged Bio-Bunkering

During its port visit to Vlissingen (Flushing) in the Netherlands on 28th December, vehicle carrier GLOVIS SUNRISE was reported to be refuelled with 50 Mt of 30% sustainable biofuel blend produced by GoodFuels.

The trial was executed during the PCTC’s journey between Europe and the Persian Gulf, which was successfully concluded this January.

According to GoodFuel, the sustainable marine fuel that powered GLOVIS SUNRISE was 100% waste and residue-based and met the highest sustainability requirements.

This marine fuel supplied by GoodFuel is claimed to provide 80% to 90% well-to-exhaust CO2 reduction compared to its petroleum-based fuel equivalent.

Due to the drop-in properties of the biofuel, it required no changes in the fuel tank or engine to power the PCTC.

Hyundai GLOVIS expects this partnership will offer the company solid footing for significantly decoupling GHG emissions from its fleet of 153 vessels while also fostering its capabilities for eco-friendly green logistics.

Headquartered in Seoul, Hyundai Glovis is a global logistics company that offers businesses optimal strategic services. The company is committed to continuously evolving and delivering greater sustainability across its logistics and shipping activities.

George Verwer, founder of Operation Mobilization, passes away aged 84

The death has been announced of George Verwer, who founded the global Christian mission agency, Operation Mobilization, and directed it for 45 years.

He passed away peacefully with his family by his side at his home near London, England, on the evening of Friday, April 14th. He was 84 years old.

George was born in New Jersey, USA, and committed his life to Christ at a Billy Graham meeting in New York City in 1955. Driven by the cause of world evangelism from then on, the teenage maverick went on to have immeasurable global impact. He has been described as “the most outstanding North American missionary statesman of the last 60 years.”1

George changed the face of missions in his generation,” said Andrew Scott, President of OM in the USA. “When the mission agencies of the late fifties were looking for highly trained individuals with seminary degrees who would commit to going for a lifetime, George invited young people who simply loved Jesus to come for a summer. This was new. This was different. Thousands came.”

Operation Mobilization began with three students in a worn-out van distributing Christian literature in Mexico, then branching into Europe and across the globe. Today, more than 3,000 OM workers are active in almost 150 countries, in a huge range of ministries. George’s daring vision in the 1960s led to ships being used to transport and train international volunteers while carrying a cargo of literature and aid supplies. Fifty million people have climbed the gangways of OM’s four ships, and at least double that number have come into contact with the Good News through outreaches and projects in port cities worldwide.

Movements like OM and its close contemporary, Youth With A Mission (YWAM), led the way in developing same- and near-culture workers to serve globally alongside those from established mission-sending nations and backgrounds.

OM’s International Director, Lawrence Tong, said, “George was passionate about Jesus, passionate for God’s Word and passionate for the lost. I believe he was God’s man for the 20th century, who changed the course of modern mission.”

He demonstrated a lifestyle of radical discipleship. “George’s legacy is that of a life-size example of a truly committed Jesus-follower,” said Akira Mori, a ministry pastor in Japan. “George had a God-given ability to inspire and exhort and challenge – but to me, the person was the example, the message and the challenge; much more than what he said.”

“George truly practised what he preached,” said Matthew Skirton, Field Leader of OM in the UK. “His authenticity and passion for reaching the lost, but also his humility and transparency when sharing about his struggles, have profoundly impacted me – and I know have touched, encouraged and challenged so many others.

Known for his world map jackets and for handing out more than a million free books, in the twenty years since he stepped down from leading OM, George managed special projects, spoke at church events with characteristic vigour and wrote more than a dozen books. A key theme was admitting his own imperfections and honouring God who graciously forgives and works through people, despite their mistakes. He called it ‘messiology.’

Lawrence Tong recalls, “many people, myself included, were baffled at the invention of the word. I realize more and more the truth and wisdom of what he packed into that one word alone. As usual, George the trailblazer was way ahead of us in his spiritual life, in his thinking, in his vision, and in his interpretation of trends. There will never be another GV.”

Joshua Bautista, OM Canada’s Executive Director said, “George was not only a man of immeasurable influence and impact on modern Missions, but he was a faithful man of God whose sole desire was to love his Lord and help others enter into the same loving relationship with Jesus.”

George is survived by his wife, Drena, their three children, plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Verwer family thanks partners all over the world for their prayers and asks for privacy at this time. Details of a local Canadian Celebration of Life service will be released later. See our website for details: www.om.org/ca. Also, a tribute video has been created which can be seen here.

Speaking in 2015, George summed up what drove him, long past retirement age:

“I’m still mega-motivated to see everyone in the world being given the gospel at least once… [to] have the opportunity to hear about saving grace through our Lord Jesus Christ, and I hope I can, right to my last breath, continue to share that message.”

If you would like to give to OM in memory of George, click here: www.om.org/george

About Operation Mobilization:

Operation Mobilization’s work began when George Verwer, Dale Rhoton, and Walter Borchard embarked on their first mission trip in 1957. Their passion to share God’s Word with those who had not yet heard the gospel or encountered followers of Jesus led to a global organization of upwards of 3,000 people, now at work in more than 147 countries. Millions have been shown the love of Christ, tens of thousands of Christians who served short-term have been discipled and prepared for future service, and countless lives have been transformed by God. An estimated 300 other organizations worldwide have their roots in OM or have been started by former OMers.

“We are committed to seeing a vibrant community of Jesus followers within reach of every person in the world.” – OM in Canada’s mission statement

Dubai’s Luxury Market Shows No Signs of Slowing Since its 2021 Surge; Expansion Expected to Continue this Year

Dubai’s luxury real estate market is poised to continue booming in 2023, with a deluge of international ultra-high-net-worth investors flocking to the city amid economic and geopolitical uncertainty elsewhere.

Gulf Business has shed light on the key factors providing an impetus to the substantial influx of private wealth for ultra-luxury properties in UAE over the last year.

The sale of prime real estate in Dubai increased 89% in October 2021 from the previous year—a speedy recovery from a steep slump prevailing from 2014 to 2020. Dubai’s real estate market climbed so fast that it caught many off guard.

Dubai Luxury Real Estate Market Booming

2023 is witnessing a sharp rise in the demand for properties in the city’s prime and super prime enclaves, such as Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Bay, and Business Bay.

Luxury prime properties in Dubai have been transacted for a whopping 7235 dirhams per sq.ft. in the first quarter of the year—a jump of 16% from 6,250 dirhams per sq.ft. registered in 2022.

Driving Forces Behind Dubai’s Luxury Real Estate Market Boom

The global upheaval has seen a flight of capital from Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries recently, and Dubai’s luxury property market has proven to be a prime benefactor due to its faster recovery from the pandemic crisis.

The ultra-luxury hotels, exclusive penthouses, and villas with exquisite views are helping Dubai cement its iconic position in the luxury real estate market, thus making it the preference of wealthy buyers.

The hiking interest rates, soaring inflation, and deep recession looming over the West are unlikely to dent Dubai’s real estate market growth.

Again, UAE’s tax-free regime, pro-business policies, and easy mortgage plans are some key factors incentivising investors worldwide to snap up properties in Dubai.

However, mortgage transactions account for only a quarter of overall property deals in the city as most properties are bought by high-profile investors who are less bothered by mortgage rates.

Off-plan payment structures which offer post-handover payment plans to investors, have made Dubai’s real estate top the customers’ list. Off-plan payment enables investors to rely less on borrowing, effortlessly adapt to foreign exchange fluctuations, and use strategies to retain their wealth.

The city’s excellent climate, safety, and unrivalled sun-sea-sand lifestyle have scintillated a terrific comeback leading to a meteoric rise in luxury property sales. Case in point: Dubai’s luxury real estate market has been ranked fourth globally, closing in on New York (NY), Los Angeles (LA), and London.

In 2022, this Middle Eastern real estate business hub racked up 219 property sales valued at USD 10M or more, compared to 93 in 2021—a jump of 135%.

By comparison, NY recorded 244 sales worth around $10M, LA 225 transactions, and London 223.

The fast development of townhouses and apartments with a brand name has long been considered a key factor in buoying Dubai’s property market. Around 48 branded projects in Dubai are poised to be delivered in the next few years.

Again, with millionaires preferring contemporary design, interior design services in Dubai, such as Accouter, are getting a push. High-end interior design studios can turn exclusive spaces into exquisite residences while ensuring a superior living experience.

Wrapping Up

Despite soaring prices, Dubai’s luxury real estate market is set to see substantial growth this year with record-high sales.

Help Net Security Discusses How Passive Cybersecurity Awareness Training Might Not Be Enough Anymore

There was an article on Help Net Security that claims that the era of passive cybersecurity training is over. The article discusses how, despite people realising the need for improved cybersecurity, there are still vulnerabilities that leave businesses exposed to cyber threats.

The aforementioned statement is based on the key findings of a survey conducted by Action1. These are presented here:

Breaches Due to Known Vulnerabilities

The survey found that 10% of the respondents had suffered from a cyber attack in the past year. And, out of them, 47% were through known security vulnerabilities.

49% of the respondents said phishing was the most common attack vector, and over half (54%) reported they lost control of their data due to ransomware attacks.

Lack of Support from Executive Teams

Several IT teams reported that they didn’t receive adequate support for cybersecurity initiatives from upper management. That, according to them, has been a critical threat to the business’s cybersecurity posture.

The teams also reported that they often were too busy with operational issues to be able to adequately take care of cybersecurity.

Inadequate Response Time and Remediation Efforts

According to the respondents, the time taken to identify vulnerabilities, failure to prioritise security issues, and the delays in remediating known vulnerabilities might cost their companies in security breaches.

Not Enough Cybersecurity Awareness Amongst Employees

The survey reported that employees need more time to improve their cybersecurity awareness. That means organisations are more at risk through phishing and other cyber attacks.

Based on these findings, what can businesses do to reduce their risk of cyber threats?

Manage Security Vulnerabilities Better

Since known vulnerabilities are often the ones exploited by threat actors, it is essential for businesses to manage and patch these flaws as soon as possible.

Use Automation to Reduce Cybersecurity Costs

Executive teams might not see any direct benefits of spending on cybersecurity, even though a cyber attack can end up costing the business a lot. However, IT security teams can use automation to lower their costs. This can be useful in arguing their case for a stronger cybersecurity posture.

Improving Cybersecurity Awareness

Since any cybersecurity strategy is only as strong as its weakest link—the employees—it is imperative that they are educated on the threats they might face and how to tackle them.

Communication channels are the preferred mode of social engineering attacks. Data stolen from other sources can be used to customise messages to make them more personalised and appear trustworthy.

With such attacks on the rise, employees should not only be equipped to identify phishing attacks but to also understand the importance of verifying before trusting.

Moreover, threat actors are now also using AI to generate malware, which, depending on how it’s used, might be more sophisticated than the average, run-of-the-mill computer virus.

In other words, businesses need to reduce their reliance on passive cybersecurity training.

Luckily, instead of a six-hour training session, which will be forgotten within the week, there are tools to help with ongoing training and monitoring. One such tool is CultureAI—a platform that helps “improve cybersecurity behaviours and reduce security incidents caused by employees”.

The platform offers human risk monitoring, security awareness coaching, employee security empowerment, and human risk response.

This platform can help alleviate some of the problems faced by businesses, such as poor cybersecurity awareness among employees, lack of knowledge on how to deal with potential risks, and what to do when an employee is at risk.

Celebrating the Game-Changing Women and Their Contribution to the Design Industry

In a recent post, Vogue celebrated the most influential female designers in the realm of interior design and real estate. To expand on this topic even further, here’s a list of some of the most influential female designers currently taking interior design and architecture to new heights.

Kelly Wearstler

With a bevy of commercial and residential projects stunningly reflecting her evocative skills, lifestyle designer Kelly Wearstler has successfully grown into a global voice through her exquisite designs.

Since its founding, The Rug Company—Kelly’s luxury lifestyle brand and a collection of statement elements and products finished with great panache—has been synonymous with sophistication and soulful vibes.

“There is always a sense of refinement but also a rawness to our projects, which brings that soulful spirit,” said Wearstler.

Stella Gittins

Better known for her unparalleled skill of blending ultra-luxury design with sophistication, Stella Gittins, the co-founder and Group Director at Accouter Group of Companies (AGC), helps transform the interior architecture of a space into a unique, timeless environment.

“Interiors and fashion tend to change side by side, with people investing a bit more in higher quality pieces that last over time, ” said Stella when asked about the evolution of design in response to lifestyle changes. “Rather than following trends, our designs for private clients are more timeless with items people will keep for generations. Across all our brands, we try to incorporate old forms of craft as well as things made in the UK.”

Part of AGC and a proud member of Walpole, Accouter—a leading international interior design studio—helps drive sustainability in the luxury industry.

A woman with tremendous creativity and reimaging skill, Stella is a trailblazer of success in an industry where women contribute, but men reign.

Blainey North

Renowned for taking a contemporary visionary approach blended with high-end interior design skills and broad-ranging intellectual curiosity, Blainey North delivers luxury.

“Without a doubt, it is important to acknowledge the past, present, and future female creative powerhouses that continue to define our world. Equally, from my perspective, it’s crucial that we don’t look to attach a gender to a piece of design-based, for example, on its form, colour or materiality,” said North. “None of which negates the contribution that incredible women continue to make.”

India Mahdavi

Iranian-French architect and interior designer, India Mahdavi has worked on a multitude of large-scale hospitality projects, collaborated with high-net-worth clients, and even launched her own furniture line that reflects her exceptional multilayered design skill.

She is a doer and a relentless force for bringing change in the design era.

Paola Navone

Born in 1950, Milan-based architect-designer Paola Navone has become a formidable player in the design industry for her prolific, highly-stimulating state-of-the-art works.

A doer and design insurgent, Paola’s exceptional and malleable style is influenced by late-20th-century Italian metamodernism and the Thai concept of “tham ma da” (“every day,”), aiming to discover new uses for standardised, low-priced, and utilitarian items.

When asked about her female approach to design, Navone said, “Sometimes women are more curious and attentive to the nuances, more intuitive and likely to grasp the non-rational and emotional part of reality…The female approach to creativity tends to be more delicate and careful.”
