E.E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame 2023 Inductees

 

The National Association of E.E. Smith Alumni and Friends, Inc. (NAEESAF) and The E.E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame (EES SHOF) are proud to announce the second annual class of inductees into the E.E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame. The E.E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame was established August 9, 2021, with the mission to recognize the noteworthy achievements and contributions of student athletes, teams, coaches, school staff, and volunteers who donated extraordinary amounts of time and talent to the E.E. Smith athletic program.

 

The HOF Initiative Committee is excited to announce the E.E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame Second Class as follows:

• Three former coaches who helped to create and continue Smith’s outstanding winning sports legacy —  Ida Askew, Henry A. Black, and Milton A. Butts.

• Fourteen former E.E. Smith athletes who excelled in various sports at EES and in college: Joyce Vaughn Battle ’81 Basketball, Robert Brickey ’86 Basketball, Nettie Toomer Council ’48 Basketball, Carl Galbreath ’45 Football, Angela Hill ’90 Basketball, Carey Hughley ’61 Football, Samara Dobbins Johnson ’91 Basketball, Connell Maynor ’87 Football, Earl McNeill ’68 Basketball and Baseball, Garvin Stone ’69 Football, Brandon Wallace ’05 Wrestling, Bobby Earl Williams ’58 Football, Colette Williams Valentine ’82 Track and Field, Roszella Major Williams ’78 Track and Field.

• One Legacy Family of outstanding athletes, The Cole Brothers: Ben ‘57, Alexander (Fuzzy) ‘61, Allen ‘62 and Lamb ‘67.

• The 1939 Men’s Basketball Team who were Finalist in the National Championship.

 

The HOF Initiative Committee, on behalf of NAEESAF members, will introduce the second class of inductees at the home basketball game,Friday, December 2, 2022, vs. Saint Paul’s.  The Second HOF Class will be formally inducted into the E.E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame at a ceremony during a Gala Banquet on Sunday, May 28, 2023, as a part of the NAEESAF’s 2023 Annual Memorial Day Weekend Reunion activities.

What Is Comedy?  

Comedy is the use of humor to provoke feelings of amusement or laughter in an audience. It can be done through wordplay, physicality, or a variety of other means. Comedy often relies on taking something that is normally considered serious and making it funny. This can be done through exaggeration, incongruity, reversal, or through a variety of other means.

Some argue that comedy is simply whatever makes someone laugh. However, this is difficult to define as what makes one person laugh may not make another even crack a smile. There are many different types of comedy, and what one person finds funny may not be the same as what another finds humorous.

There are several theories about what makes something funny. Superiority theory suggests that we laugh at things that make us feel superior to others. This can be done by making fun of someone else’s misfortune or by poking fun at a topic that we know more about than the person next to us. Relief theory proposes that we laugh in order to release tension or stress. This can be seen in physical comedy or in jokes that play on our fears.

Comedy is an important part of our lives as it allows us to step back from the seriousness of the world and just enjoy a good laugh. It brings people together and creates bonds between strangers. Orlando Florida – August 3rd, 2022: Cam Kline Music will visit Orlando Florida from the Grand Cayman Island August 5th-10th to perform on a local bar and restaurant music tour. Cam lives on Grand Cayman Island and offers a wide range of live music entertainment. As a solo acoustic performance, Cam entertains crowds at local bars, restaurants, private parties, and corporate events with his guitar and vocals.

Cam’s music selection spans generations from the ’80s, ’90s, ’00s, and today. His music selection blends a perfect mix of rock, country, and pop to keep everyone in attendance smiling, dancing, and buying drinks. He surprises audiences with his versatility as he performs on the drums and piano in a full-band show. Thornton Park District is Hosting the 8th Annual Putt N’ Pour In Orlando

Orlando, FL – July 19th, 2022 – The Thornton Park District will be hosting the 8th annual Putt N’ Pour Minature Golf Pub Crawl In the Downtown area of Orlando near Lake Eola Park.

Day Drinking “Golfers” will be challenged by holes designed and built by eleven Thornton Park District bars and restaurants while enjoying beverage specials and prize giveaways.

After the crawl, golfers and spectators converge at Cavo’s Bar & Kitchen for the official post-party complete with drink specials, and raffles!

Participants will receive one free Tito’s John Daly Cocktail per ticket purchase at check-in!!

This event will take place on Saturday, July 23rd from 12:00 pm-4:00 pm. Guests will check in for the event in the TPD Circle located at 431 E. Central Blvd. Tickets for the event will be $15 in advance and $20 the day of for singles. Foursomes can play for $40 in advance and $50 the day of.

E. E. Smith Sports Hall Of Fame Calls For Nominations For Class Of 2023

The E. E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame announces the opening of nominations for the Class of 2023. The nominations will be open until August 31, 2022. The E. E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame was initiated in 2021. 

Known as the Golden Bulls, thesealumni are recognized for their distinction and notablecontributions in various capacities in their chosen sports fields.

The Hall of Fame also honors longstanding supporters, administrators, staff, and volunteers who have shown loyalty and passion to the Golden Bulls and their rich athletic culture -individuals who have been supportive off the field to the cause of E. E. Smith High School athletics. Nominations are open to honor and preserve the illustrious contributions of these individuals.

E. E. Smith High School has a long and rich sports history. Over the years, it has produced a plethora of exceptional, nationallycelebrated athletes and coaches. These individuals have made names for themselves due to their outstanding athletic abilities and by winning state and national college championships and Super Bowls and by making game changing contributions as coaches and players on the college and professional levels. 

Nominations for the E.E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame, Class of 2023, will remain open until August 31, 2022. Nominationforms can be accessed on the web site of the E.E. Smith Sports Hall of Fame (www.eesmithsports.com). Nominators mustensure that the nomination form is filled out completely and that the nominee meets all the established criteria for the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame Selection Committee will not accept self-nominations or anonymous nominations. All nomination forms will be filed and reviewed for up to 3 years if the nominee is not inducted into the current class.

Woodpeckers Announce Partnership With TJ Robinson Life Center

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Fayetteville Woodpeckers have partnered with the TJ Robinson Life Center to advance youth involvement in baseball. The donation will provide youth with free access to baseball equipment and other opportunities to learn about the sport of baseball.  

  

The Woodpeckers Foundation and Community Leaders Program donated $10,000 to the TJ Robinson Life Center, a new multi-sport and fitness community center in Hope Mills, North Carolina. The TJ Robinson Life Center focuses on providing youth with equal opportunities, regardless of socioeconomic status.  Funds will be used to purchase batting cages and baseball equipment, including bats, gloves, helmets and a pitching machine. The purpose of the donation is to encourage youth to learn about baseball and be involved in baseball without financial barriers. This donation is part of the Community Leaders Program, which supports youth sports and military initiatives in the Fayetteville area. 

 

In addition, the Fayetteville Woodpeckers will host a free “Day of Play” at the TJ Robinson Life Center. Members of the TJ Robinson Life Center will be able to learn about baseball and participate in a skills clinic run by players of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. A team effort from The 808 Orlando, Cavo’s Bar & Kitchen, Burton’s Thornton Park, and Graffiti Junktion will create this awesome event they are calling SHAMROCK THE BLOCK on St. Patrick’s Day!
