New York, NY (Press Release) – Tiger King. Unemployment. Netflix. Boredom. News Headlines. What do these all have in common? According to Napping.com, they have all contributed to hitting the tipping point of a new pandemic, a ‘Napidemic’. In honor of National Sleep Awareness Month, Napping.com is pushing out a social awareness campaign to promote proper napping by releasing a ‘Survival Guide to a Napidemic.’
Early studies from the UK report that improper napping can put you at greater risk of contracting COVID-19. For example, the study found that for every additional hour of sleep at night, they were 12 percent at lower odds of becoming infected with COVID. On the other hand, those who had napped an hour during the day did have a 6 percent higher chance of contracting COVID-19. This increased risk is a result of how sleep impacts how our body can recover from illnesses.
“We wanted to raise awareness to the benefits of napping and how to nap properly and felt putting a term behind the campaign such as a Napidemic was a great way to capture people’s attention and openness to better napping,” said Anthony Santiago, VP of Marketing.
“When people think napping, they think catnap or power nap, but aside from that, they nap away, but there are benefits to napping properly and that’s the information we hope to convey and spread with this report,” continued Santiago.
Since the start of March, National Sleep Awareness Month, Napping.com has released reports on various areas of sleeping and sleep disorders. They also just wrapped up their “Ultimate Power Nap Bundle” giveaway which ended on March 19th specifically to honor National Napping Day which was on March 15th this year, the day after daylights savings.
Medical research has demonstrated the close connection between sleep and the immune system where the lack of sleep could potentially make vaccines less effective.
“We don’t want to give people another thing to worry about and I am sure we’re all tired of hearing anything ending in -demic, and what we’d all love to do us just sleep it off and wake up in a world free of -demics, and in a way that’s what we’re promoting, take a nap, and although the pandemic will still be around, you’ll be better refresh to take on the day with a proper nap.”
The guide provides a look into how our sleep and napping schedules have changed forever and gives an insight into how to best optimize your nap time and day overall, specifically showcasing the Do’s and Dont’s in a Napidemic.
